Welcome Story

We start the day with a short story.

Staff will support any child (or parent!) who finds saying goodbye difficult. If your child is particularly upset, we will ring you to reassure you when they do settle.

9.30am Key Group Time

This is when children are encourage to talk and listen in small groups.

Children will work on activities with their key group worker.

9.45am Free-Play

These are mainly child-initiated activities. There will be adult-led

activities including things such as:

Problem-Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

Role-Play

Water / Resources Tray

ICT

Small World Play

10.20am Snack Time

The children have snacks in key groups with their key group worker.

Fruit will be cut up with the children. It is a good opportunity to introduce maths – how many pieces? / enough / full

/ empty and so on.

Children will be encouraged to try fruit and to pour their drink and clear away cups and plates independently.

This is a nice time to have a chat about what they have been doing.

10.40am Key Group Singing

Children will sit in their key group although the singing will be a whole group activity.

10.50am Free Play

Children are free to choose where to play. Again there are adult-led activities planned which may include cooking

activities such as making cakes, porridge, sandwiches, smoothies and so on.

Additional resources are introduced to replace some of the earlier activities available. These may include:

Food Exploration

Investigation Area

Books / puppets for stories

Big Play / Outside Play (times to be reviewed)

11.40am Tidy Up

Children are encouraged to help tidy up the activities. We are trialling using an instrument / song to signal that it is

time to tidy up. The children will be encouraged and supported to tidy where they are playing.

11.50am Key Group Review

This will be a chance for children to talk about what they have done.

Sometimes this will be linked with planning – looking at what they wanted to do with what they actually did!

12.00 Story Time

We like to end the session with a story for all the children in the parlour.

This is the time that we celebrate special days like birthdays.

12.15pm Home Time

The children remain in the parlour until the adult collecting them arrives.

Please sign your child out on the register when you collect them.
